3 Simple Ways To Improve Your Health

You don’t always need to make drastic changes to improve your health in a big way. Small, sustainable adjustments that become part of your daily routine are – in my opinion – the most beneficial changes you can make. That’s why I have decided to list my top 3 simple steps you can take to ensure you’re moving in the right direction when it comes to improving your health, fitness and wellbeing. I guarantee that if you nail these 3 things on the head, you’ll reap the benefits in more ways than one.

INCREASE YOUR WATER INTAKE

I’m sure it will come as no surprise that this is one of my top tips. Drinking enough water is hugely important for our overall health. Your body is about 70% water, which means you need it in order to function properly! Benefits of drinking enough include an increase of energy which also improves your concentration and focus. It also aids weight loss, as often people confused feeling thirsty with feeling hungry and eat due to dehydration. Furthermore, when you’re dehydrated fat cells become harder to break down. Another benefit is the improvement of skin complexion. Water helps to keep your skin fresh, giving you that healthy, glowing look. Wondering how much you should be drinking? Aim for 2-3 litres per day.

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Sleep is massively underrated. It’s surprising how many people I meet who eat right and train hard, yet their sleep is awful. In fact, it’s one of the first things you should get right before you focus on any other aspect of health or fitness. If you’re sleeping badly, you’re more likely to make poor food choices, you won’t be as active as you could be and you’ll generally feel rubbish. As a starting block, work out how many hours of sleep you need to function (my minimum is 7 hours), and make a point of getting around this amount on a consistent basis. I find that investing in a comfortable mattress has been key to my quality of sleep, alongside my Lumie nightlight which wakes you up with sunlight. Small additions like this can significantly improve your bedtime routine and make you feel more energised throughout the day.

WALK MORE

It’s a no-brainer that being more active is good for your health, however people often associate this fact with the need to do intense exercise. In fact, studies show that increasing your daily steps can have a huge impact on your daily calorie expenditure and you can even burn more energy through walking than a gym session. It’s a great way to increase your heart rate, get your blood flowing and even give you some much-needed me-time. It can also be a very social form of exercise as you can catch up with friends, walk your dog and simply enjoy the here-and-now. Try going for a 30 minute walk on your lunch break or after work. Small, regular additions to your day can have the biggest overall impact.

Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying an all-or-nothing approach. Small and simple is a great place to start. Make sure you’re doing all of the above and you’ll be well on your way to feeling healthy, strong and motivated.
